Not only did the bomb destroy things only seconds after it was released, but it affected many lives in the future. One of the many effects of the "Little Boy" was "Black Rain". When the bomb exploded above Hiroshima, many radioactive isotopes were released into the atmosphere. The "Black Rain" was one of the many causes of the fires that spread across the wreckage that was once recognized as a city. "Black Rain" caused radiation poisoning when it was inhaled, or by consuming unsafe food or water. It would reach the ground as contaminated, radioactive water. "Black Rain" stained buildings, clothing, and skin. High dosages of this, such as in atomic bombs, is very toxic to humans.

Radiation was an enormous issue that brought many new and unusual cancers to Japan. Forms of the cancer-causing radation soaked into the soil, roofing tiles, asphalt, and concrete. Effects from the radiation was shown on animals and plants. Some cancers that are caused by radiation are: esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, lung, bone, skin, breast, ovary, kidney, thyroid, bladder, and leukemia. When atomic bomb survivors suddenly were diagnosed with such illnesses, doctors did not know how to treat them. These cancers were new to the medical world in Japan and raised a lot of commotion. Not only did the awful bomb kill and wound thousands that day, but it murdered many people later in their lives when they least expected it.
